Part of Egypt’s rich architectural heritage comes from its religious roots. Cairo is often referred to as the city of 1000 minarets.
On this tour, you will visit some of the most famous and important Islamic sites in the city. Enjoy wandering through the Citadel of Salah El Din (who was famous in the Crusades); while visiting the fortress, you will also see get to experience the geometric beauty of Mohamed Ali Mosque within the complex.
Tour Overview
First, you will be picked up at your hotel and driven to the Citadel of Salah El Din, built between 1176-1183. Within this vast complex overlooking Cairo, you will also visit the Mosque of Mohamed Ali, one of Egypt’s emperors from the 19th century.
After enjoying the views from atop the Citadel, you will be taken to the “twin mosques” below the fortress. Sultan Hassan Mosque also served as a school for religious education, built-in 1356. Right next door, you will visit Al Rifai Mosque, built in the late 19th-20th centuries.
Next, you will be taken to the historic Khan El Khalili market to visit the final mosque, Al Azhar Mosque, a place of religious education in Egypt for centuries, including in the modern-day.
Finally, you will enjoy a fabulous lunch.
