Historic Islamic Cairo 1
Day Tour
3-4 Hours | Weekly
Part of Egypt’s rich architectural heritage comes from its religious roots. As a result, Cairo is often referred to as the city of 1000 minarets.
On this tour, you will visit some of the city’s most famous and important Islamic sites. Enjoy wandering through the Citadel of Salah El Din (which was famous in the Crusades); while visiting the fortress, you will also experience the geometric beauty of Mohamed Ali Mosque within the complex.
You will also visit the “twin mosques,” Sultan Hassan and Al Rifai. Your tour ends with a visit to Al Azhar Mosque in the historic heart of Cairo and lunch.
Tour Overview
First, you will be picked up at your hotel and driven to the Citadel of Salah El Din, built between 1176-1183. Within this vast complex overlooking Cairo, you will also visit the Mosque of Mohamed Ali, one of Egypt’s emperors from the 19th century.
After enjoying the views from atop the Citadel, you will be taken to the “twin mosques” below the fortress. Sultan Hassan Mosque also served as a school for religious education, built in 1356. Right next door, you will visit Al Rifai Mosque, built in the late 19th-20th century.
Next, you will be taken to the historic Khan El Khalili market to visit the last mosque, Al Azhar Mosque, a place of religious education in Egypt for centuries, including in the modern day.
Finally, you will enjoy a fabulous lunch.
